CASTLE DOUGLAS WIN FOUR-BALL BETTER-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP
FROM KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE GOLFERS ASSOCIATION
The
final of this years 4 ball better ball championship was played over the
Brighouse Bay course on Saturday.
In the final were John Boynton and
Chris Healey from Southerness against Rab McWilliams and Dale Ashby
from Castle Douglas. Both pairs had won through four rounds to reach the
final with seven out of the eight Stewartry clubs taking part a total of 56
players.
The Brighouse Bay course was in excellent condition and the
weather was ideal for golf. The final was a close affair with both
sides not managing to gain a significant lead. It was all square after
the 17th and on the 18th green the
Southerness pair had a putt to win the match.
The stage was set for a
Southerness win with a downhill putt of about 6 foot to win, it was
tense and although Chris Healey struck his putt well it finished
overhanging the hole. Dale Ashby sank his putt to halve the hole and
take the match into sudden death. The missed putt was to prove costly
as at the 20th hole the Castle Douglas pair won the match to become the
2013 4BBB champions.
Thanks
go to Brighouse Bay and in particular Jim Dougal the professional for
their help and assistance in accommodating the final.
