NEWS RELEASE FROM MERCHISTON'S GOLF ACADEMY
Merchiston Pupil Hill named as ISGA National
Schools Champion
Merchiston Castle School pupil, Calum Hill from North
Berwick, has chalked up his third win in six months. The 17 year old who is now
in his final year as a member of Merchiston’s Golf Academy, has won the ISGA
British Schools Final by two strokes from a field of 57 players at Princes and
Royal St George’s Golf Courses, Kent, England, adding to his wins at the ISGA
Scottish Open and the R&A Exeter Team Invitational.
In extremely windy conditions, Calum carded a level
par 36 hole aggregate of 143, (72,71) to win the individual title by two shots.
Calum received his trophy from Colonel Checketts (Royal St George’s Secretary),
Alongside two Merchiston team mates, Max Brueck (Golf
Club Munster) and Angus Roberts (The Roxburghe), the pupils combined to finish
an admirable fifth place overall from the 19 Area ISGA British School
Finalists.
Hill, a recent U18 Scottish Cap player and Tantallon
Junior Club Champion also had a fine finish, in the recent Scottish Boys’
matchplay, reaching the Fifth Round.
Calum commented, “I am absolutely delighted with the
ISGA British Schools victory; this was a good field with some of the country’s top
juniors. I have to thank Merchiston Golf Academy for running an incredible golf
programme in Edinburgh where my golf, under the tutelage of Alan Murdoch, has
really taken my game to a different level. Alan has helped me technically,
instilled a belief and taught me how to compete. Golf Fit coach Craig Tumblety,
who works with all of the Golf Academy boys, must take a huge amount of credit
too. I have worked with Craig for four years which has been invaluable. I really think the School has something
special in the Golf Academy and I am so thankful to be part of it.”
Director of Golf at Merchiston, Alan Murdoch says
“Calum Hill is a young man who understands what it takes to develop and improve
overall performance. He is a real joy to mentor.”
Calum has signed a letter of intent to enrol at
the University of Louisiana, Monroe, USA in the Autumn 2013 Semester.
