New SGU event to boost Eisenhower

preparations

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH GOLF UNION

The Scottish Golf Union has launched a new event which will take place at Blairgowrie next week (6 – 7 Sept) designed to help players’ preparations for the forthcoming World Amateur Team Championship defence as well as assisting preparations for European Tour School Qualifying.

The ‘Eisenhower Invitational’ will feature a field of the leading 21 ranked home-based Scots (from those available) in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and will take place over 72-holes over two days on the superb Rosemount course, with world ranking points on offer in the event.
Leading the field will be Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Champion Michael Stewart and his Eisenhower Trophy team-mate Ross Kellett, although the third member of the Argentina-bound party, James Byrne, has returned to Arizona State University and will be unavailable.
Hamish Grey, Chief Executive, said:
“With the domestic Order of Merit circuit reaching a conclusion last weekend, we identified a gap in the schedule and wanted to increase the competitive playing opportunities for players competing in major events in the weeks ahead.”
“We are very grateful to Blairgowrie GC (view of clubhouse pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency) for extending courtesy of their course for the event and the players involved are certainly looking forward to two days of what should be a great competition. We chose the name to honour Scotland’s win in the Eisenhower Trophy two years ago and the Rosemount course as it is a similar layout to what the players will face in Argentina,” he added.
Jordan Findlay, runner-up to Stewart in the national championship at Gullane, is also in the field as part of his build up towards Stage 1 of the European Tour Qualifying School at Dundonald Links the following week, while 2009 Scottish Men’s and Boys’ champion David Law will be hoping to continue his fine end of season form following three consecutive top four finishes in the SGU Order of Merit.
