Bolton wins Argyll & Bute title for sixth time
Rothesay's Graham Bolton secured his sixth Argyll & Bute match-play championship with a hard fought 2 and 1 victory over Millport's Les Pirie at a sun-drenched Machrihanish.
Bolton got off to a flying start with gains at holes 1, 2 and 4 before winning the 11th to go four up.
However,Pirie fought back bravely with wins at the 12th and 14th to take the match into the closing holes, but Bolton managed to cling on for a narrow victory.
The star of the weekend was young Craig Pirie who, in rounds one and two, beat two vastly more experienced competitors in Gordon McClean and Allan McKie, only to have to play his father Les in Sunday morning's semi-finals.
Experience prevailed with Les coaxing home a four-footer on the last green to end his son’s challenge. The other beaten semi finalist was another Millport member, Gordon Lundie, who went down to a narrow defeat at the hands of Bolton on Sunday morning.
