FLORIDA FISTFUL OF DOLLARS
FOR RUNNER-UP RUSSELL KNOX
Even a final round of six-under-par 66 for a total of 15-under 201 was not enough for Russell Knox to step up from second place overnight in this week's NGA Hooters Tour Winter Series tournament at Rio Pinar Country Club, Orlando in Florida.
Knox had an eagle and six birdies in halves of 32 and 34 but bogeys at the 12th and short 17th eventually made the difference between victory and a two-shot defeat.
The former Scotland youth cap had earlier rounds of 70 and 65 and earned $7.273 as he finished second behind American Ted Potter who had rounds of 66, 68 and 65 for a 71-under-par total of 199, which earned him the $14,545 first prize.
Knox, from Inverness, but a resident of Jacksonville Beach, Florida since his four years at Jacksonville University, has won $26,452 from the eight Winter Series events in Florida. This week's prize was the biggest of his consistent run in which he has twice finished second, four times in the top five and only once out of the top 15 since last November.
