Scotland finish runners-up with three draws

Ireland international champions at
boys', men's & senior amateur level

Ireland gave England a 6-1 drubbing on the final day at Tenby Golf Club, Wales to win the senior men's home internationals' championship.
That completed a home internationals hat-trick this year. Ireland had earlier won the boys' internationals at Royal County Down and the men's home internationals at Muirfield.
Ireland, of course, are also European senior champions, having won the title on home turf at Shannon earlier this year.
One of the men who played a big part in the European win, Arthur Pierse (Tipperary), was a late call-off from the Irish team for Tenby due to a viral infection. But replacement Nigel Duke (Killiney) slotted into his place and Ireland match on with two wins and a halved match against Scotland over the three days.
Scotland never won a match - but finished runners-up on a countback over England. They didn't win a match, but they didn't lose a match either, finishing their programme with a 4 1/2-4 1/2 draw with Wales, which was a terrific fightback from trailing 0-3 at lunchtime after the foursomes.
John Fraser, skipper Ian Hutcheon, Scottish seniors champion Bob Stewart and Rob McLellan delivered singles victories and Gordon MacDonald, playing in the No 1 position, gained a square match with Jermine.
How they finished:
1 Ireland (2 1/2pt), 2 Scotland (1 1/2pt, 12 games won), 3 England (1 1/2 pt, 10 games won), 4 Wales 1/2pt.
