Booth, Butterfield share
lead at windy Lanark

Scottish amateur stroke-play champion Wallace Booth from Comrie and a lesser-known player, Forbes Butterfield, from Bothwell Castle battled their way through a strong easterly wind to share the lead at the end of the first round of the 72-hole Newlands Trophy tournament at Lanark Golf Club today.
They had matching two-over-par 72s, which was the CSS for the round in this the final counting event of the Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit circuit.
Scottish amateur champion and Newlands Trophy holder Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) decided not to defend the title after six rounds of golf in three days at the Home Internationals at Muirfield and with the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 event coming up.
Booth also played for Scotland in the home internationals and he also has his name down for the Qualifying School.
A third member of the Scotland team at Muirfield, Paul O'Hara (Colville Park), had a 73, alongside Scott Borrowman (Dollar) who won last week's South-east District Open at Duddingston where heavy rain caused the abandonment of the fourth and final round.
Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh), winner of the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play a fortnight ago, was on 75.
