ABERDEEN PAIR JOINT FIFTH
IN PORTUGAL SENIOR PAIRS
The Aberdeen pairing of former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie (Hazlehead) and Alistair Fiddes (Deeside), pictured right, finished joint fifth in the 36-hole Portuguese senior men's open pairs amateur golf championship at Estoril Golf Club today.
Pirie and Fiddes combined for rounds of 69 and 76 for a total of 145 to finish seven shots behind the winners, Italy's Frederico Lang and Visconde de Pereira Machado who had scores of 70 and 68.
The only other Scottish pairing in the championship, which is the curtain raiser to the Portuguese senior men's individual amateur championship at the same venue later this week, John Broadfoot and Colin Moir, finished joint eighth with 74 and 72 for 146.
Thirty-four pairs from all over Europe took part in the pairs championship.
