Press Release
English Golf Union launch Ping Boys'
Order of Merit for 2008
The English Golf Union have announced they will be launching a PING/EGU Boys order of Merit to run in parallel with the already established Men’s PING/EGU Order of Merit.
The inaugural EGU Boys Order of Merit will commence with the McEvoy Trophy in April and conclude with the Faldo Series Grand Final in October while including several of the leading under 18 events that take place throughout the season.
The Mens PING/EGU Order of Merit has been running for six years and 2008 will see an unchanged schedule of qualifying tournaments and championships.
Chris Wood, who is based at Long Ashton Golf Club, will be defending the PING/EGU Order of Merit title he won in 2007 after a series of consistent performances throughout the domestic schedule.
EGU Director of Coaching Peter Mattsson commented, “We have been trialling an EGU Boys Order of Merit for the last two years. We’re aiming to replicate the success of the PING/EGU Order of Merit in men’s golf by encouraging youngsters to compete in a recognised schedule of events and accumulate points throughout the domestic season.
"During these two years we have worked hard and taken much advice to try and get the balance of tournaments and points at the correct level. We would welcome comments and feedback throughout this first season in order for both men’s and boy's schedules to evolve further.”
The latest PING/EGU Order of Merit leaderboards, can be found on the England Teams section of the EGU website www.englishgolfunion.org/EnglandTeams.
