ERNIE FINISHES WITH A QUADRUPLE
BOGEY TO BE 10 BEHIND LOCA
HERO LEADER IN INDIAN MASTERS
Local hero Jyoti Randhawa carded a flawless seven-under-par 65 to take the lead at the inaugural Indian Masters at Delhi Golf Club today.
The 35-year-old holds a two-shot advantage over Richard Finch and in-form Irishman Damien McGrane after the opening round.
Two-time US Open champion Ernie Els shot a quadruple-bogey at the 18th on his way to a three-over-par 75. Els is not having the best of luck in European Tour events this season. He finished with a double bogey when playing the last too agressively in the Dubai Masters last weekend.
Randhawa said afterwards: "It was a great round - you can't ask for a better first round.
"The Delhi Golf Club doesn't leave you alone, it keeps you under pressure all the time. I just think of past performances and it helps a lot."
McGrane agreed with Randhawa, adding: "It is difficult to get up and down. The ball reacts differently on every chip shot and every putt, so it's about making birdies whenever you get the opportunities."
Jose Manuel Lara, Thomas Bjorn and Shiv Kapur are at four under, with Graeme McDowell, two-time major winner Mark O'Meara and English duo David Lynn and Benn Barham in a group one, stroke further back.
Ex-pats Simon Yates is the leading Scot on two-under 70. On 71 we have home-based Stephen Gallacher and another Eastern exile, Ross Bain.
Peter Whiteford from Kinross battled well to salvage a par round of 72 but Andrew Coltart's revival this season - having lost his Euro Tour card at the end of the 2007 campaign - seems to have subsided.
This season he has been playing very well the first two rounds to make the cuts and then sliding down the leaderboard.
Today, he started the reverse process with a 76 which means he is in danger of missing the halfway cut.
