LATE BOGEY COSTS LAIRD A FISTFUL
OF DOLLARS - BUT HE'S EARNED
MONEY FOR SECOND WEEK IN ROW
Martin Laird bogeyed his second last hole of the day - the short eighth - for a closing round of two-under-par 70 in finishing joint 56th on nine-under-par 351 for the five rounds of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California.
The Glasgow player had made the cut, by one shot, for the second week in a row on the US PGA Tour. This time his take-home pay cheque was for $11,373. But for that late bogey it would have been about $1,000 more.
Martin, starting at the 10th, had birdied the 14th and 18th but dropped a shot at the 17th. After that he birdied the fourth and sixth to get to three under par for the day before that late bogey.
Englishman Brian Davis collected $39,270 for a joint 26th place finish on 345. D J Trajan, with a closing round of 65, made up seven shots on leader Justin Leonard (72) to win by three shots with a total of 334.
