KAYMER COMES OFF THE BOIL BUT STILL MANAGES TO WIN FIRST EURO TITLE BY FOUR SHOTS IN ABU DHABI


Germany's Martin Kaymer scored his first win on the European Tour when he picked up the first prize of 225,421 Euros in the Abu Dhabi Championship today.

Kaymer, an all-the-way leader, won by four shots in the end, despite a closing round of two-over-par 74 for a 15-under-par total of 273.

The German, European Tour Rookie of the Year in 2007, was 13-under-par for the first 36 holes of the tournament with impressive scores of 66 and 65. He was not quite so impressive with a tally of 142 (68-74) for the final two rounds. England's Lee Westwood, joint runner-up with Sweden's Henrik Stenson on 277, for instance, outscored the winner by nine shots over the last two rounds with 65 and 70.

Colin Montgomerie earned 13,660 Euros for sharing 23rd place with a clsoing 71 for 283, one shot better than Paul Lawrie who earned 11,428 Euros for a joint 30th position after a closing 70.
