EUROPE TEAM

VALDERRAMA
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
I hear on the golfing grapevine that the top two Scots in the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings - Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) and Wallace Booth (Comrie) - are in with a very good chance of being selected to play for Europe in the biennial match against the Asia-Pacific Select for the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy at Valderrama Golf Club on Spain's Costa del Sol from April 25 to 27.
Macaulay, on left of two images, is ranked No 30 world and Booth , on right, is No 47. They are the only two Scots in the top 50 of the world men's amateur rankings which are being used to select the team plus a number of captain's picks as in the Ryder Cup.
Spain's Gonzaga Escauriaza will again captain the European team. He led Europe to victory in the match in New Zealand in 2006.
The European team will be announced within the next few days.
