RYDER CUP FIRST DAY
WOOSIE'S WONDERS LEAD 5-3
Ian Woosnam's Team Europe justified pre-match favouritism by leading the United States 5-3 at the end of the first day of foursomes and four-ball ties at The K Club, Ireland.
Sergio Garcia was the inspired European player with two wins but skipper Woosnam made sure that every one of his squad of players saw action either in the morning or afternoon.
No bringing anyone in from the cold to play for the first time in Sunday singles as far as Woosie is concerned.
Colin Montgomerie, pictured on right, inspired as usual by the Ryder Cup atmosphere, holed a last-green putt that made all the difference at the end of an exciting first day.
