BELHAVEN BEST HANDICAP CHAMPION
MORAYSHIRE MAN WINS AT THE
DUKE'S - BUT ONLY JUST!
Morayshire golfer John Dawson, 41-year-old member of the Hopeman club, won the Belhaven Best Scottish Club Handicap individual championship over The Duke’s Course, St Andrews on Wednesday.
John, who has cut his handicap from 26 to 19 this season, finished up with 33 Stableford points – but won the title only on a comparison of the inward halves with Brian Williamson (Lothianburn). (John Dawson picture above, from the Scottish Golf Union website).
Brian also had 33 points but his inward half was “only” 17, compared with John’s 18.
Newmachar scratch player Martin Lawrence finished third with 32pt but will be rueing a double-bogey at the last hole for many a long day. That cost him the title.
