AYRSHIRE WOMEN END 49-YEAR WAIT FOR 14th SCOTTISH COUNTY TITLE

Ayrshire have won the Scottish women's county golf championship at Peebles this weekend for the first time in 49 years.
They last won the title at Troon in 1970

This is Ayrshire's 14th capture of the championship since they made the breakthrough in 1911, winning the title again in 1912 and 1920.

Ayrshire won all three matches this weekend, beating Fife 7-2. Perth and Kinross 6-3 and Dumfriesshire 7-2.

The champions' top players were Rachel Foster (Prestwick St Nicholas) and former Scottish champion Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) who both won six out of six ties at Peebles, three foursomes  (with the help of their partners!) and three singles apiece.
