Antonia Celebrates Historic Win at the Home of Golf

August 09 2019

The 2019 St Andrews Boys’ and Junior Ladies’ Opens brought to an end a week of fantastic competition at the Home of Golf.

This year’s Junior Ladies Open welcomed a truly international field to the Home of Golf with 90 girls from around the world competing over the famous Links.

And it was Antonia Zacharovska who made history becoming the first Slovakian winner of the Golf Monthly Trophy, defeating South Africa’s Jordan Rothman 3 & 2 in a thrilling final that opened with a birdie barrage over the Old Course.

With several of her Slovakian teammates competing in events, Antonia was well supported throughout with her victory providing good reason to celebrate with her compatriots.

In the Boys’ Open the Merchants’ Cup was won by France’s Edouard Cereto, who played some impeccable golf throughout the week, beginning with a score of 65 on Monday over the Eden Course to lead qualifying on Monday.

In the semi-finals over the Old Course, Edoard, who plays his golf at Saint-Nom La Breteche, enjoyed a tense tussle with Australia’s Adam Brady, finding himself 4 down before he mounted a great recovery to win on the 18th.

Facing South Africa’s Ayden Senger in the final he was in control throughout the match eventually winning the Merchants’ Cup 3 and  2, to celebrate a special victory at the Home of Golf.

French success was also enjoyed in the Junior Ladies’ Open qualifying where Pyrene Delample, from Three Valleys Golf Club, reached the semi-finals after leading qualifying with a 66 over the Strathtyrum Course.

In the handicap competitions Xavier Schwarz, from Wentworth, defeated Ben Cowan, from Taymouth Castle, by 1 hole to win the Murray Mitchell Trophy while the Girls Open Quaich was won by Isla McCulloch, from Rothes, who defeated Lucy Hall, from Gullane, 2 & 1.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in a fantastic week of competition at the Home of Golf. To find out more about the tournaments and entry for the 2020 Boys’ and Junior Ladies’ Opens
