Six-man England team to challenge in Costa

A six-man team will represent England in the 2019 Costa Ballena octagonal match in Spain.
 
The players are Jake Bolton of Wiltshire, Sam Done of Lincolnshire, Harry Goddard of Hertfordshire (pictured), Ben Hutchinson of Yorkshire, David Langley of Berkshire and Joe Long of Gloucestershire.
 
The match will be played from 22-25 January at Costa Ballena and will be contested by eight countries. England’s opponents are: Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
 
The match was extended from four to eight countries for the first time in 2018, when England won the bronze medal. Spain were the champions and Netherlands were runners-up.
 
The players
 
Jake Bolton, 20, (Ogbourne Downs) had a string of high finishes with third place in the Italian international, ninth in the Lytham Trophy and fourth in the Welsh open.
 
Sam Done, 21, (Kenwick Park) reached the match play in the British and English amateur championships. He was eighth in the Scottish open and 11th in the Lee Westwood Trophy.
 
Harry Goddard, 18, (Hanbury Manor) was in England’s winning team at the boys’ Home Internationals. Individually he was fourth in the Walton Heath Trophy and the Peter McEvoy Trophy and eighth in the Hampshire Salver.
 
Ben Hutchinson, 23, (Howley Hall) reached the last 16 of the Amateur Championship, losing by one hole to the eventual winner. He was fourth in the Hampshire Salver, ninth in the Lytham Trophy and seventh in the Welsh open.
 
David Langley, 24, (Castle Royle) won the qualifying for the South African amateur, was runner-up in the Tillman Trophy and the Hampshire Salver and had top tens in the Brabazon and Berkshire Trophies. He helped England win the men’s Home Internationals
 
Joe Long, 21, (Lansdown) was runner-up in the English amateur championship, fourth in both the Scottish open and Dutch Junior Open and fifth in the Hampshire Salver. He was also a member of England’s winning team at the men’s Home Internationals
