Walker Cup player in 2009 and 2014 Kazakhstan Open winner, England's Sam Hutsby won the Portugal Pro Tour's Penina Classic by a single shot from the Open Championship Silver Medal winner Sam Locke from Stonehaven in an exciting finish over the Penina Championship course on the Algarve.
The first-round lead was held by Paul McBride with a fine 6 under par 67 which gave him a one-shot lead over Hutsby, Aberdeen's Craig Lawrie and Alfredo Curbishley who each scored 5 under par 68s.
The second round was a tightly contested affair between Hutsby, Lawrie, Locke and McBride after Curbishley’s challenge was derailed with a double bogey on the ninth.
As the day wore on the battle for the lead condensed down to the back nine holes with Hutsby, Lawrie, McBride and Locke all tied up at 5 under par the final result would be decided with a birdie shoot-out on the back nine.
With Lawrie making two birdies, McBride with three but also a bogey on the 16th, Locke making three it was Hutsby with a birdie on the eleventh and three in the last four holes who clinched the championship and his first win on the Portugal Pro Golf Tour
