Valerie Clancy leading

Irish women's match-

play qualifier
By CARLA REYNOLDS
Valerie Clancy (Killarney), pictured, has led the qualifiers, winning the Leitrim Cup, at the Irish Women’s Close Championship in Enniscrone with a par-matching 36-hole total of 146.
Clancy becomes the second Killarney member in a row to lead the qualifying at this event following Mairead Martin in Mullingar last year. Ciara Casey (Hermitage) and Shannon Burke (Ballinrobe) shared second place on 148 while Deirdre Smith (Co. Louth), who opened with a 2 under par 70, qualified in fourth place.

The Championship now progresses to the match-play stages where Clancy will face 32nd qualifier Chloe O’Connor (Roscommon) on Sunday morning. The next 16 have qualified to play in the Ita Wallace Trophy.
