Confident start by Royal Aberdeen with away win over Stonehaven

Royal Aberdeen, beaten 3-2 by Newmachar in last year's Aberdeen Pennant League final, made a confident start in their bid to go one better in this year's tournament.

The Balgownie men, whose line-up included three members of the Macandrew family, won 3 1/2-1 1/2 at Stonehaven

Newmachar don't start their defence of the title until next Tuesday when they are at home to Auchmill.

Nigg Bay are in the same Section A as Royal Aberdeen and the Balnagask team were too strong at home for Caledonian, beating them 4-1.

In Section B, Portlethen won 4-1 at Auchmill. Also in this section Peterculter had an impressive 4-1 win at home to Hazlehead on Monday evening.

Craibstone made a solid start to their Section C campaign by winning 4-1 at home against Banchory.

One fixture will be played on Thursday - a Section C match at the Links between Bon Accord and Murcar Links.
