Johnston beats Forrest in all-Scottish final on Costa del Sol

Liam Johnston from Dumfries beat Grant Forrest (Craigielaw) by one hole in an all-Scottish final to the Andalucia-Costa del Sol March-play 9 at Valle Romano Golf Club, Estepona on Spain's Costa del Sol.

Rookie pro Johnston earned 32,000 Euros for winning this Challenge Tour event, in which all the ties were scheduled for nine holes. Forrest earned 22,000 Euros.
Further down the prizelist, Scotland's Ross Kellett (14th) and David Law (20th) earned 3,023 and 2,200 euros respectively.
Johnston, pictured, had to go the 14th green to win his semi-final against Jacopo Vecchi Fossa (Italy) while Forrest had a more comfortable 3 and 2 win in his semi-final against the No 2 seed, Welshman Stuart Manley who later won the 3rd/4th place play-off by beating Vecchi Fossa 2 and 1, which earned him 12,000 euros.
In the final, Johnston got off to a flying start by winning the first hole with a birdie and the second with a par. But Forrest fought back to level the cotest with a birdie at the seventh.
That was as good as it got for the former Scottish amateur champion. He bogeyed the eighth to fall one down again and the ninth was halved, leaving Johnston the victor by one hole.
In his final year as an amateur, Johnston won the Scottish stroke-play and the African open amateur championship.
