Cantley edges out McIntosh to win

Champion of Champions tournament
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Liberton's Kieran Cantley, the halfway leader, lost the pole position over the third round to Euan McIntosh (Turnhouse) but turned the tables on his rival over the final circuit to win the Scottish Champion of Champions tournament, organised by the Leven Golfing Society over the Leven links.
McIntosh had a one-stroke lead going into the final 18 holes but an outward half of 32 saw Cantley regained the advantage.
In an exciting last few holes, Cantley drove into a bunker at the 12th but still managed to get a birdie. McIntosh birdied the 17th to be only one shot in arrears on the 18th tee.
Both players parred the last hole.
And so Cantley, a past winner of the North of Scotland Open amateur stroke play for the David Blair Trophy, finished with a 67 for a 14-under-par total of 270 - one stroke ahead of the former professional, Euan McIntosh, who made a great return to amateur golf in Scotland last year at the age of 47 ... and ended the season being capped for Scotland!
McIntosh's final round at Leven was a 69 for 271. The first two finished well clear of the selected field.
Fraser Carr (Crail GS) finished a distant third with a 73 for 277. He had an eagle 2 at the first hole in his second round 68.
Newmachar's Christopher Lamb had a final round of three-under 68 for 289, tieing for 10th place in the final standings.
Scottish Golf removed the "Champions" competition from their calender this year and Leven Golfing Society ran the event off their own back to make sure it continued.
All administrative and monetary support required was provided solely by Leven Golfing Society whose officials thought it important to keep a competition 50 years old in 2020 going into the next 50!.
