McWilliam and Sweden's Grant share Helen Holm lead

after two rounds at Troon Portland

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
First-round leader Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) fell back to joint sixth place with a 75 for two-under 142 in the second round of the 54-hole Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship, the first two rounds of which are over Troon Portland and Sunday's final round over Royal Troon's Open championship links.

Title-holder Linn Grant (Sweden), pictured right, whose grandfather James Grant won the Scottish boys championship in 1958 before turning pro and taking a club post in Sweden, and Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) jointly lead the field on six-under 138.
Grant has had a pair of 69s and McWilliam, who was runner-up to the Swede 12 months ago, also had the same scores.
Torphins-based 18-year-old McWilliam (pictured left) is chasing a place in the GB and I Curtis Cup team of eight which will be announced next week.
Team captain Elaine Farquharson-Black has been in the gallery at Troon Portland over the first two days.
Also pressing for a place in the June match against the Americans at Quaker Ridge, New York State is young English player, Lily May Humphreys (Stoke by Nayland).
Lily May is in third place, one behind the joint leaders, after scores of 71 and 68 for 139. She birdied the 11th, 12th, 15th, 16th and 18th in an inward 30 in her second round.
Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) covered her last 12 holes in six under par with birdies at the seventh, ninth, 11th, 12th, 15th and 18th, for a 68 and a two-round total of 140 for joint fourth place overnight.
Hazlehead teenager Jasmine Mackintosh came in late in the day with a second-round 67, which included seven birdies, 10 shots better than her first round. She is on 144, six behind the joint leaders. Also on 144 is Strathmore's Kirsty Brodie whose second-round 67 included birdie 2s at the eighth and 16th.

McWilliam, Grant and  Humphreys will tee off on Sunday at Royal Troon at 11.20am.

Wardle, Goadby and Malchirand tee off at 11.10
