Scottish Boys' Open title goes to Continental player

Dalziel and Hall rue late slips as German leader wobbled over final round

Germany's Patrick Schmuecking, pictured above, made all the running to win the Scottish U18 Boys' Open over 54 holes at Montrose Links today (Friday).
But the young man from Wiesbaden wobbled over his final round, finishing with scores of 71, 72 and 76 for a six-over-par total of 219.
Patrick, 16,  won in the end by a single shot from two Scots, Greg Dalziel (Airdrie) and Aaron Hall (Kilspindie), who finished joint runners-up and will be rueing their late slips which cost them the chance of victory.
Schmuecking had a double bogey 6 at the fifth in his final round and also bogeyed the 16th and 17th.
Dalziel  shot 77-71-72 for 220, bogeying the 14th, 16th and 18th in his final round.
Hall had scores of 74, 73 and 73. His last effort included a double bogey 6 at the 17th. Had he parred that hole he would have won the title
Callum Scott from Nairn finished sixth on 222 with scores of 72, 73 and 77 but he won the Under-16s championship. But for a double bogey 6 at the 14th and a bogey at the 17th, the Highlander would just about have taken advantage of the first three's late slips.
Scott did birdie the 18th
