BOAT OF GARTEN CAPTAIN GRANT WINS NORTH SENIORS' GOLF TITLE OVER HOME COURSE

By ROBIN WILSON
James Grant, the host club captain and in his first season as a senior, won the North District seniors' championship for the Macallan Trophy at Boat of Garten Golf Club today (Friday).
He headed a field of 50 with a scratch round of 72 to win by two strokes from Laurie Chancellor (Inverness), twice the winner in the past three years, with Alistair Adam (Nairn) third with a 79.
Two other players had 79s - David Sharp (Boat of Garten) and Patrick Tomisson (Nairn) - but Adam won the countback on the best last six holes.
Despite the wind and rain, Grant bogeyed only three holes while partnering Chancellor. One over par with a first nine of 35, having bogeyed the fourth, Grant's lead disappeared when Chancellor birdied the ninth, but Grant’s birdie on the first inward hole cancelled it out.
Chancellor’s  three-putt bogey six three holes later allowed the local man some breathing space and the comfort of a bogey on the final hole when the rain was at it’s worst to sign off for an inward 37 and 72.
Grant's wife Debbie was invited to present  her husband with the Macallan Trophy.
