Hamish McAlpine helps Alyth finish as top
qualifiers at Portlethen
Former Dundee United goalkeeper Hamish McAlpine, who has a golf handicap of 7.2, linked up with Alyth Golf Club playing partner Brian Hackney (4.3) to top the qualifiers at Portlethen Golf Club today (Friday) for the Grand Final of the Scottish Club Handicap tournament at Fairmont St Andrews' Torrance Course on Friday, September 22.
McAlpine and Hackney had a better-ball net score of 11-under-par 61, finishing three strokes ahead of Craibstone's John Borthwick (3.2) and Ian Still (3.3) with the Portlethen duo of Alex Legge (19) and Mark Wallace (11) third with a score of 65.
Ballater, Westhill, McDonald Ellon, Arbroath Artisan, Kettledrum and Cruden Bay all finished with scores of 69.
