Aberdeen-born Michael Sim, pictured, has cashed in on a sponsor’s invitation to last week’s Web.com Tour event by finishing high enough to earn another start this week.
Sim is trying to resurrect a career derailed by injury in recent years and after Monday qualifying twice early in the season caught a break at the Digital Ally Open in Kansas.
A third round 62 at the Nicklaus GC at Lionsgate propelled Sim up the standings and his eventual T21 result was enough to gain access to this week’s Ellie Mae Classic in California.
Ironically, Sim is a former winner of this tournament, having lifted the trophy in 2009, but didn’t need to call on his past champion status to gain a tee time this week.
Michael emigrated with the Sim family to Australia when he was seven or eight years old from the Aberdeen suburb of Westhill.
