Culverwell shines in Germany with a sub-par 71

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Former Scottish amateur champion Alexander Culverwell (Dunbar) had his best round for some time - a one-under-par 71 - to be sharing 11th place at the end of the first round of the Pro Golf Tour's Preis des Hardenberg Golf Resort at the German venue.
Culverwell birdied the 14th and 18th in halves of 36-35 and is four strokes behind the German leader, Sean Einhaus.
The North-east pair of Kevin Duncan and Philip McLean are joint 24th on 73 with Chris Robb (Meldrum House), after a disappointing 79 (39-40), sharing 74th place.
Portlethen's Sam Kiloh bogeyed the last five holes in an inward half of 43 for an 82 and a T91 position in a field of 108 players.
