Merion GC, Pennsylvania to host 2022

Curtis Cup match

FROM THE USGA WEBSITE
Merion Golf Club, Ardmore in Pennsylvania is to stage the 2022 Curtis Cup match.

The Merion East lay-out enhanced its reputation by hosting three U.S. Golf Association championships in a nine-year span, capped by the wildly popular U.S. Open in 2013 that went down to the wire before Justin Rose emerged with the trophy.

Merion's selection  was announced Tuesday by the USGA. It will be its second time as the site for a Curtis Cup, a biennial competition matching female amateurs from the United States against those from Great Britain and Ireland. The United States won the 1954 Curtis Cup at the club.

Merion has hosted a wide variety of USGA events, including five U.S. Opens, six U.S. Amateurs, four U.S. Women's Amateurs, a Curtis Cup, a Walker Cup, and the U.S. Girls Junior.
Of course, the Open is the big prize.
It took the national championship 32 years to return to Merion for its 2013 run there, which followed the 2005 U.S. Amateur and the 2009 Walker Cup.
Asked if he could see another U.S. Open in Merion's future, club president James B. Bradbeer Jr. responded, "We have ongoing conversations with the USGA. I think I'll leave it at that."

Bradbeer said he and club officials felt the 2022 Curtis Cup, which will be conducted from June 10-12, "was a terrific follow-up to the Open."
"We love hosting championships, which we did in '05, '09 and '13, which was a lot," he said. "Then we appropriately took a break . . . It will end up being nine years, which I think is right. We really loved our Walker Cup experience and we're excited about doing something like the Curtis Cup. We think it will be terrific. . . .
"Hosting championships is part of being a Merion member, being part of a club that invites the United States Golf Association in from time to time to host a wide variety of events," he said. "I think '05 and '13, and even the Walker Cup, reminded us just how much fun and how good that was, not only for us but also as a steward of the game."
The next Curtis Cup, hosted by Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York State, will take place in June 2018.
