Royal Aberdeen won the Journal Cup North-east District team championship by one shot from defending champions Newmachar and Bon Accord in a very tight finish to the 36-hole competition at Turriff today.

The last time a Balgownie team won the Journal Cup was 42 years ago in 1975.
The Royal Aberdeen line-up was Mark Halliday (72-71 for 143), Don Macandrew (75-73 for 148) and Nick Macandrew (69-79 for 148).
Newmachar's team was Gordon Munro (73-70 for 143), Calvin Cheyne (74-73 for 147), Chris Lamb (77-73 for 150).
Bon-Accord's lie-up was: Neil Mitchell (74-70 for 144), Barrie Edmond (67-77 for 144) and Matthew Greig (73-79 for 152).
The four individuals who had the best 36-hole aggregates will return to Turriff tomorrow to contest the Jaffrey Cup NE District match-play championship:
Corin Stewart (Murcar Links) v Clark Brechin (Portlethen).
John Godward (McDonald Ellon) v Scott Clarihew (Turriff).
