Craig Lawrie finishes sixth in Algarve Pro 

Tour opener, earns 600 euros (£514)

Craig Lawrie, elder son of the 1999 Open champion, earned 600 euros (£514) for finishing sixth in a field of 46 players at the opening event of the 2016-17 Algarve Professional Tour, staged at Boavista Golf Club, Lagos.
Craig, pictured left), playing out of the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, had rounds of 68 and 70 for a total of four-under-par 138 over the par-71 course.
He had nine birdies over the 36 holes, including four in an outward half of 31 in his first round.  Bogeys at the 14th and 17th in his second round cost Craig a top-four finish behind the English-born winner, Daniel Garner, 21, from Romford Essex.
Garner earned the 2,000 euros (£1,714) first prize with scores of 64 and 71 for seven-under-135.

Scot Jay Taylor, pictured right, who is based in the south of England,  finished in a three-way tie for second place on 136 with scores of 67 and 69 for 136, a score matched by Tiago Cruz (Portugal) (70-66) and England's Harry Casey (68-68). The trio earned 1,033 euros each (£907).
