Corcoran leads at nine-over-par 153 in tough

weather for Irish senior women

Wind and rain - and more is forecast for the final day - made it tough going for the competitors in the Irish senior women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Arklow Golf Club today.
Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) had a second-round of 78 - six over par - but that was good enough to put her two strokes clear of the field on nine-over 153.
She leads by two from Pat Doran (Donabate) (75-80) and by three from joint third placed Sheena McElroy (Grange) (76-80) and South African Sonja Bland (79-77).
Defending champion Gertie McMullen (Island) is lying fifth with rounds of 80 and 77 for 157.
The top 40 and ties now move forward to the final 18 holes tomorrow. With heavy rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon it will be survival of the fittest to see who will be crowned Irish Women’s Senior Open Championship 2016.
