BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Michigan – Stanford senior Maverick McNealy can’t wait for the upcoming US college season. The Cardinal lost just one player to graduation – Welshman David Boote – and return a core that includes McNealy, junior Franklin Huang and sophomore Brandon Wu. Plus, they will add freshmen David Snyder and Henry Shimp.
“I’m very excited about our team this year,” said McNealy, the world’s top-ranked amateur and the Haskins Award winner from two seasons ago.
While McNealy is enthusiastic for the season to begin, he might not want to report back to school next month.
Why, you ask? Well, let’s just say McNealy and his team will soon be embarking on the trip of a lifetime: a nearly two-week-long trip to Scotland that will include golf on 10 esteemed courses.
The line-up:
  • Crail Golf Club
  • St. Andrews’ New Course
  • Kingsbarns Golf Links
  • Carnoustie Golf Links
  • Cruden Bay Golf Club
  • Nairn Golf Club
  • Castle Stuart Golf Links
  • Royal Dornoch Golf Club
  • Trump International
  • Royal Aberdeen Golf Club
“Something I’ve been looking forward to since I signed up four years ago,” said McNealy, who will be joined by his whole team, including the freshmen, and Stanford coaches.
Said Huang, who is joining McNealy and Shimp at the U.S. Amateur this week: “That’s just a cherry on top of going to Stanford.”
