JEFF WRIGHT HALFWAY LEADER AT 

INVERNESS AFTER SECOND-ROUND 64

Jeff Wright (Forres), a quarter-finalist in the recent Scottish amateur championship, leads the field at the halfway stage of this weekend's Scottish Golf 72-hole Order of Merit event, the North of Scotland open amateur stroke play championship for the David Blair Trophy at Inverness Golf Club.

Wright, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, after a one-under-par opening round of 68, surged into a three-stroke lead from Jamie Stewart (Old Ranfurly) with an excellent score of five-under-par 64.

He had an eagle 3 at the long third and birdies at the long gifth, 14th, short 15th and 17th. Wright's lead could have been bigger as he bogeyed the 18th in halves of 32.

First-round leader Cameron Franssen, a local teenager, also had a 64 but he sagged to a 73 in the second round in which he had only one birdie and a double bogey 6 at the 11th.

Stewart, 16, the only Scot in the GB and I boys team for the Jacques Leglise Trophy match against the Continent at Prince's Kent, next weekend, is in second place on 135 on the back of rounds of 65 and 70.
