Craig Lawrie, 20-year-old son of Paul Lawrie, has followed in his famous father's footsteps by winning the North-east Alliance championship.
With rounds of three-over 66 at Inverallochy last week and five-under 64 at Craibstone today, Craig's 36-hole tally of 130 pipped clubhouse leader, Murcar Links amateur Andrew Campbell (65-66) by one shot for the Uniroyal Quaich won by Paul Lawrie in 1989 and 1991.
"I hit it well today to have an eagle 3 at the fourth and birdies at the eighth, 11th, 13th and 17th," said young Lawrie.
"The only bad shot I played all day was at the 18th where I had my only bogey of the day after pulling my second left of the green and failing to get up and down to save par."
Campbell will be rueing his bogeys at the fifth, seventh and 18th in halves of 35-31 at Craibstone today. He had birdies at the second, eighth, 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th.
Some consolation for Campbell is that he won the trophy that goes to the amateur with the lowest two-round total.
Defending champion John Duff (Newmachar) tied for fifth place on 134 with scores of 64 and 70 (37-33).
Newmachar amateur Chris Lamb, joint first-round leader with a 64 at Inverallochy, did not have a single birdie in halves of 39-35 for a 74 at Craibstone.
Kris Nicol (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) was another who had a 64 in the first round and could not break 70 at Craibstone. He shot a 73 after starting bogey-bogey and a triple bogey 7 at the 13th was the last straw.
Scott Mackie (Kemnay) won the Chapper's Pot Class 1 handicap trophy with a net aggregate of 131 off five of a handicap.
Mike Winton (Caledonian) won the Major's Pot Class 2 handicap award with a net total of 129 off 13.
Alfie Smith (Turriff) was the winner of the Veterans' Pot with a net total of 134 off four
