THREE DOUBLE BOGEYS DRAG DOWN 

WILL PORTER IN SOUTH AFRICA

Carnoustie's Will Porter, winner of the Scottish U18 boys' match-play championship last year, shot a six-over par 78 today (Tuesday) in the first round of the Cape Province 72-hole stroke-play championship at Kingswood Golf and Country Club, South Africa.
Porter had double bogeys at the third, fifth and 13th in halves of 40 and 38. He is in tied 133rd position in a field of 213 players going into the second round.
Another Carnoustie representative, Jamie Connelly, had an 83 for joint 189th place. He had two double bogeys and a triple bogey 8 at the par-5 eighth.
Leading the field is South African Herman Loubster with a seven-under 65 (32-33) after being eight under par for the first 14 holes.
Leading English player is the in-form Jamie Bower from Meltham. He is joint 24th after a one-under-par 71.
Compatriots Alfie Plant and Nic Elliot shot 72 and 73 respectively.
