Good win by Walker over McInally in

Ayrshire match-play at Prestwick St Cuthbert

FROM THE AYRSHIRE GOLF WEBSITE
Sandy Walker (Ardeer) had a notable win in the first round of the 2015 Ayrshire match-play championship this evening at Prestwick St Cuthbert GC where he defeated 2015 Ayrshire stroke-play champion Tommy McInally (Loudoun) on the final green
There was never much in the tie throughout and a birdie three by Walker on the 16th put him one ahead. McInally looked favourite to take the 17th but Walker produced a superb put for a par three to half the hole and closed out the match with a par at the last for a one hole victory.

In the quarter finals on Tuesday evening Walker will face Stuart Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) who beat host club player Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 2 and 1 in the first round.

Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) came in as a late replacement for Malcolm Pennycott (Whiting Bay) who withdrew due to illness, and Brown grabbed his chance with a 4 and 3 win over Scott Brown (Turnberry) to book a quarter final place.
In the last eight, Euan Brown will play Steven Stamper (Turnberry) who edged out his clubmate Scott McCahill by one hole on the final green.

Host club hopes for the title are in the hands of Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert).

He who beat Barrie McDonnell (Caprington) by 2 and 1 to go through to Tuesday nights quarter finals, where he will play 2013 champion Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) who edged out the current title holder Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) by one hole.
John Shanks (Irvine) maintained his hopes of one of the county titles which has so far eluded him with a 3 and 2 win over Paul Denim (Loudoun), and now plays John Haggarty (Loudoun) in the quarter finals after Haggarty ended the hopes of the 2014 runner up Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) at the 20th hole

Rookie Kaufman's first Web.com Tour title

EWBURGH, Indiana -- Rookie Smylie Kaufman won the United Leasing Championship by five strokes Sunday for his first Web.com Tour title.
Kaufman, the 23-year-old former Louisiana State University student rom Birmingham, Alabama, had two double bogeys on the back nine in a closing 1-over 73 to finish at 10-under 278 at Victoria National.
He matched the course record with a 64 on Saturday to take a four-stroke lead into the final round.
"I'm blown away. Shocked," Kaufman said. "I still can't comprehend it all, but I'm so excited about getting the win. It wasn't perfect. I made mistakes all week. I just stayed composed and believed in what I was doing."
Kaufman earned $108,000 to jump from 28th to fourth on the money list with $159,535. He was coming off consecutive fourth-place ties in the Louisiana Open and Mexico Championship after missing the cuts in his first three starts of the year.
He birdied Nos. 2-4 to take an eight-stroke lead at 14 under.
"When I got on the sixth, I already felt like I had won," Kaufman said. "I had to refocus. I looked at the leaderboard and knew I still had a lot of holes to play. That's a big lead and the tendency is to tune out at that point."
He had the double bogeys on the par-4 12th and par-3 16th.
"I really didn't eat much for lunch and I was out of gas," Kaufman said. "I was eating energy bars and drinking Gatorade for those holes. I started getting my energy back and started hitting better golf shots."
Jonathan Randolph (69), Adam Long (73) and Ryan Spears (74) tied for second.

McIlroy the Match-play King in San Francisco
 EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICAIONS
Rory McIlroy may have missed out on ringside seats for the big fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night, but the World Number One made amends by giving himself an early birthday present with victory in the WGC - Cadillac Match Play in San Francisco.
McIlroy, who turns 26today, defeated Gary Woodland 4 and 2 in the final at TPC Harding Park, his third win of the day after completing victory over Paul Casey in the quarter-finals and producing a brilliant finish to get the better of Jim Furyk in the last four.

The four-time Major winner made a scrappy start to the final before a hat-trick of birdies from the fifth took him four up at the turn and seemingly certain to win his second World Golf Championships title after victory in the Bridgestone Invitational last year.
However, after both players birdied the 10th, McIlroy bogeyed the 11th having failing to get up and down from a greenside bunker and Woodland reduced his deficit further thanks to driving the green on the short par four 12th and two-putting for birdie.
World Number 52 Woodland looked like winning another hole after McIlroy bogeyed the 13th, only to miss from two feet for par after a superb recovery from a greenside bunker.
And that proved to be the pivotal moment in the contest as Woodland then three-putted the 14th and made a mess of the 16th to give McIlroy the title.
England's Danny Willett, who lost to Woodland in the semi-finals, secured third place after beating Furyk 3 and 2 in the consolation match. Willett’s third place cheque of $646,000 solidified his position of second place in The Race to Dubai, while McIlroy’s $1,570,000 for winning establishes a commanding lead at the top of the standings.

Player Quotes

Rory McIlroy: “I'm really proud of myself with how I showed a lot of character early in the tournament, coming back from some deficits. I played really solid golf. I have got on a nice little run in match play. I got a lot of confidence from the way I played against Rickie (Fowler) in the Ryder Cup last year (winning 5 and 4) and just followed it on through into this.

"Obviously I am delighted, a second World Golf Championship and first win in the States this year and so I could not be happier.
“The World Golf Championships are very important to us as players.  They're a group of events where you get the best group of players in the world. This ranks just below the Majors, just like I did with my victory at Akron last year.  These Wedgewood trophies are nice to look at in your trophy cabinet.  It will be going in there right next to the one I won at Bridgestone last year.”
