Golf-ball diver drowns in Texas course lake
FROM GOLF DIGEST.COM
The golf ball recovery business in America can be very lucrative. In fact, a man recently claimed to have made $15 million diving for golf balls in Florida.
Of course, it's not the safest vocation.
In
addition to snakes and alliggators, there's the fact that humans weren't
designed to be under water for long periods of time. So even when using
scuba gear, accidents happen.
Sadly, the Austin Statesman has reported
such an incident happening last week. A man was found drowned in a pond
at the Star Ranch Golf Course in Hutto, Texas. on Friday.
"He
had run out of air and had a lot of weight on him to keep him down,"
said Capt. Mike Gleason of the Williamson County sheriff's office.
"What
we speculate is that the water was so cold it probably sent him into
shock and he went to sleep."
The
man wasn't identified in the report, but his father acknowledged that
his son, in his 40s, had a hobby of illegally diving for golf balls and
selling them.
