Sawgrass date for England teenagers
Teenagers
Toby Briggs and Rhys Nevin-Wharton will represent England in next
month’s Junior Players Championship, presented by TaylorMade-adidas
Golf, at TPC Sawgrass, Florida.
The 54-hole
championship takes place from September 3-6 and will be played by an
international field of 78 boys. Last year it was won by England’s Sam
Horsfield, who is based in Florida. Briggs, from Dunston Hall in Norfolk, and Nevin Wharton, from Sandiway in Cheshire, were both in England’s team at the recent Boy’s Home Internationals. Briggs, 15, tied for the McGregor Trophy only to lose in a play-off. He was runner-up at the Fairhaven Trophies and helped England to win the Nations Cup. He represented England in the European Young Masters where he tied 11th.
Nevin-Wharton,
17, (image © Leaderboard Photography) tied third in the Sir Henry
Cooper Junior Masters, shared fourth place in the Irish boys’ open and
reached the matchplay stages of the English amateur. He was in England’s
winning Nations Cup team at the Dutch Junior Open.
