David Horsey's lead cut for final round
EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Englishman David Horsey will take a narrow advantage into the final round of the Made in Denmark, clinging on atop the leaderboard after being reeled in by Australian Terry Pilkadaris.
Horsey made a brilliant start with three birdies and an eagle in the first six holes, stretching his lead to seven shots.
However, a mixed back nine meant he ultimately signed for a three under par 68, allowing Pilkadaris to claw his way back into contention with a superb 65.
English pair Chris Paisley (66) and John Parry (69) are four shots off Horsey’s lead on 11 under, while Søren Kjeldsen and Mads Søggard are the best placed Danes, both on eight under par after rounds of 68 and 69 respectively.
Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort was jumping once again, with nearly 23,000 spectators – 1,700 more than in the third round last year – creating an electric atmosphere.
Quotes
David Horsey
“I got off to a great start so I was obviously very pleased with that. There were a few tough holes in the middle that I didn’t tackle that well, and obviously it was disappointing to bogey the last. It’s tricky, though, as there’s a cross-wind out there. I maybe didn’t hit it quite close enough with my wedges in the middle of the back nine, but I’m still in a great position tomorrow. I didn’t have a clue that I was seven clear. There aren’t that many leaderboards out there, and anyway I was just trying to focus on myself. You can’t win a tournament on a Saturday so I was just trying to play my own game and get as far ahead as I could. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Terry Pilkadaris
“It was an enjoyable day – you can’t complain when you shoot 65. I just holed some mid-range putts today, some ten to 20 footers. I holed three to four of them and that really gets your score going. I drove the ball really well and managed to capitalise on my chances. I saw on the sixth that David was 17 under and I knew I had to get going a bit. But anything can happen in golf; things can change very quickly. I’ve pegged it back and I’ll keep going tomorrow.”
Chris Paisley
“Two years ago I was going into the last bit of the season with not very much money on the board and it’s not a nice position to be in. This year it’s making a big difference that I’ve nearly got my card wrapped up. I’m much freer and enjoying it more. The 16th is a hole where you’re looking forward to it on the few holes before. When you’re on the 15th green and you can see all the people and hear them cheering for the group in front, it’s amazing. It’s one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had on a golf course.”
