Ian Angus is main hope of keeping seniors'
title in Scotland
Duff House Royal's Ian Angus (pictured by Steve Ellis) has had only three birdies in 36 holes but the Banff player is still the main hope of a home winner in the Spire Murrayfield Scottish senior men's open amateur 54-hole stroke-play championship at Deeside Golf Club, Bieldside on Aberdeen's western suburbs tomorrow.
Angus has had rounds of 72 and 73 for a two-round tally of five-over-par 145.
He lies tied fourth behind the England 1-2-3 at the top of the leaderboard
Ian Attoe (Worplesdon) is in the pole position on 142 with rounds of 73 and 69.
He leads by one shot from Mark Stones (Boyce Hill) (69-74) and by two from third placed Richard Partridge (Wildernesse), 73-71 for 144.
Overnight leader Glynn Rees - he is a Welshman after all - crashed from a four-under 66 to a nine-over 79 but, tied fourth with Angus on 145, he is by no means out of it.
Deeside has proved not so easy as some thought and Rees' figures prove that. He had a triple bogey 8 at the third and a double bogey 6 at the 18th in halves of 41-38.
The next best Scot after Angus is Ian Jeen (Scotscraig) in joint seventh place on 149
The cut was much higher than predicted and eventually fell at 155 with 54 players advancing to Friday's final 18 holes. Defending champion Barry Brooks (Meldrum House) made it through comfortably with scores of 78 and 73 for 151
