LINKS   DEFENDING CHAMPION CRASHES OUT AT 19^TH

Defending champion, Alan Doig was a surprise casualty in the first round of the Links Championship beaten at the 19^th hole by Peter Coutts of the Bon Accord.  There was little to separate the two players until Coutts took a one lead with a par on seventeen.  However, Doig held his nerve and a par on the last took the match to extra holes.  Coutts was not going to be denied and a 10-foot birdie putt on the 19^th ensured his passage into the next round.

Past champions Ron Evett (top seed), Barrie Edmond, Stewart Finnie and Matty Greig all progressed comfortably into the quarter finals.
