NEWS RELEASE
Richie
Ramsay has been named the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month for
March after claiming the third title of his career at the Trophée Hassan
II.
The
31-year-old from Aberdeen held on for a one-stroke victory in Agadir, Morocco, having
started the final day in a three-way tie alongside compatriot Andrew
McArthur and Frenchman Romain Wattel at Golf du Palais Royal.
After
a strongly-debated panel meeting at Hilton’s landmark Waldorf Astoria
hotel in Edinburgh – The Caledonian , Ramsay pipped South Africa’s
George Coetzee, who won a second European Tour title at the Tshwane
Open, to the March award.
Also
in the running was Trevor Fisher Jnr, who was voted third for March
thanks to a maiden Africa Open success on home soil, while Joburg Open
winner Andy Sullivan was fourth.
“I’m
delighted to have been named The Hilton European Tour Golfer of the
Month for March,” said Ramsay, who receives Hilton HHonors Diamond
elite status, the highest tier of Hilton’s renowned loyalty scheme.
“I
was thrilled to win in Morocco after a difficult run of form so far
this season, so to hold off the challenge of a top quality field on a
difficult final day, and to play like I did to take the title, was
fantastic.
“It
had been a little while since I last won in Switzerland, so to get back
into the winners’ circle was great and I’m now looking forward to what
the rest of the season holds.
“I’d
like to thank Hilton for their sponsorship of the award and the panel
for choosing me, I was up against some stiff competition so I’m glad I
came out on top.”
My
European Tour fans were also involved in this month’s award, with the
new format also seeing them vote for their top three players from March.
Going
forward, one lucky subscriber to successfully order the competitors
each month will earn themselves a two-night stay at any Hilton
Portfolio hotel worldwide, while all seven winners from March through
September will be entered into a prize draw to win an incredible
three-night stay in Dubai for the season-ending DP World Tour
Championship, Dubai.
Ramsay
now joins Danny Willett (December), Gary Stal (January) and Anirban
Lahiri (February) as a contender for The 2015 European Tour Golfer of
the Year.
