Fergie catches fire again with a 66 to lead by two in Craigmillar Park Open

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Ewen Ferguson surged to the front in the Craigmillar Park Open with a third-round, four-under-par 66 today at the Edinburgh venue.
The Bearsden player, who won last weekend's Scottish Champion of Champions' tournament at Leven, is in the pole position with a 54-hole aggregate of 207, three under par.
His earlier rounds were 71 and 70.
Highlights of Ferguson's third round were a eagle at the third, and birdies at the first, eighth, 10th, 14th and 18th.
He bogeyed the second, eighth and 16th to keep the hopes alive of his nearest challenges, Connor Syme (Drumoig) and Strathclyde student Craig Chalmers, both on 209.
Syme has had rounds of 69, 73 an d67, Chalmers 70, 69 and 70.
Former winner Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) is in fourt place on 211 (75-69-67) with Benn McLeod (Musselburgh), who did well in this event, reduced to 36 holes, last year behind winner Craig Watson.
McLeod is on 212 with scores of 71, 72 and 69.
Overnight leader Barry Hume, who has not won an SGU 72-hole Order of Merit event - this is the first of the 2015 series - since he was reinstated to the amateur ranks two years ago this month, slumped to nine shots off the pace with an eight-over-par 78 for 216.
The Haggs Castle man, Scottish amateur champion in 2001, had been leading at the halfway stage with rounds of 68 and 70.
