VANNET-ROBERTSON DOG FIGHT FOR THIRD PLACE
IN BRIMMOND BISTRO NE ALLIANCE SCRATCH MERIT
Only three events to go in the Brimmond Bistro North-east Alliance Scratch Order of Merit - the Race to Craibstone, writes Colin Farquharson.
With a lead of close on 1,000pt, Newmachar amateur John Duff looks almost certain to be the winner of the first prize, worth about £150 - he would, of course, receive the award in the form of an amateur voucher prize from the sponsors, the open-to-the-public restaurant in the Craibstone Golf Club restaurant.
The top three points totals in the Scratch Order of Merit after the
second round of the championship at Craibstone GC on March 18 will earn prizes from the Brimmond Bistro
Alliance captain Joel Hopwood, the Senior Assistant Professional at Royal Aberdeen GC - the man who devised the points scheme and updates the points every week for Scottishgolfview.com - should make it over the winning line in second place.
But Craibstone Golf Academy teaching pro Lee Vannet and Wednesday's winner at Peterhead, Peterculter amateur Tony Robertson will have other thoughts about that as they engage
in a dog fight for third place, if not higher.
Vannet has a lead of only 79pt over the fast-fishing Robertson and it will be interesting to see how that duel progresses over the fixtures at Oldmeldrum next Wednesday and the 36-hole championship at Duff House Royal (March 11) and Craibstone Golf Club (March 18).
The biggest climber within the top 20 this week was young pro Sam Kiloh (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) from Portlethen. He jumped up eight plaees to No 10 in the table. Sam is pictured on the left.
Another PLGC pro, Azerbaijan-born Kamran Zeynalov, and Portlethen amateur David Fleming both improved their position by
six places, Kamran to No 19 and David to No 27.
Hazlehead amateur Brian Nicolson went up five spots to No 11.
The "kangaroos" - big jumpers - outwith the top 20 were former Newburgh pro Ian Bratton (Bratton Golf) and Les Fowler (Royal Aberdeen). They both shot up 17 places on the back of their Peterhead performances to positions 87 and 88 in the table.
Well done, lads! Keep practising!
Points are awarded weekly to the players with the top 20 scratch scores from a 1-2-3 of 500-450-400 down to 20pt for 20th place.
