PUMPHERSTON PAIR WIN EAST ALLIANCE ON
COUNTBACK AT WINTERFIELD
From: Alan Greenshields
Edinburgh and East of Scotland Golfers' Alliance
Forty-one member and guest teams competed for the Richardson and Brownlee Trophy in a better-ball invitational event at Winterfield with amateurs getting 3/4 of their handicap and used at index holes.
Yet again this season it went to the better inward nine to determine the names on the silverware.
It was the Pumpherston duo of Steve Dand and Steve Maskrey who were rewarded for their inward 29 shots in their net score of 60 to pip Danny Airens (Falkirk Tryst) and Chris Spencer (North Berwick) whose net 60 had an inward 32 shots.
Close behind on the net front were Peter Louden (Glencorse) and Jim Laing (Glencorse) on 61.
Scratch scoring was also closely contested and it was the "Young Guns"from Peebles, Joshua Lamd and Darren Howie, who took the top prize with a two-under-par 63.
Only one shot away on 64 were the Longniddry duo of Nathan Free and Marc Owenson.
Third spot was split four ways on 65 and included president Steven Doyle (Liberton) and his guest Jane Turner (West Linton).
Next week the East Alliance stays on the East Coast and heads to Craigielaw.
