AUSTRALIAN MASTER OF AMATEURS TOURNAMENT



Paul Howard finishes with a 66 to share fifth place at Royal Melbourne

English stroke-play champion Paul Howard (Southport and Ainsdale), pictured at the top of the page, finished a creditable joint fifth in the Australian Master of Amateurs 72-hole tournament at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Howard finished with the day's best round of six-under-par 66 for a seven-under-par aggregate of 281 - five shots behind the winner, 17-year-old Australian Zach Murray from the state of Victoria (pictured with the championship trophy and the green blazer that goes to the winner every year).
English match-play champion Nick Marsh from Huddersfield, winner of the Scottish youths open championship last year, tied for 16th place with a closing 71 for 285.
Ben Stow, from Rushmere, Wiltshire, the third English player in the field, finished T61 on 297 after a closing round of 75, his third 75 of the tournament.
