ELLON PLAYER ON VERGE OF BIGGEST PRO VICTORY

Ross Cameron faces test of nerve at Egyptian venue

CAMERON LEADS BY ONE WITH A ROUND TO

GO IN RED SEA EGYPTIAN CLASSIC

Ellon's Ross Cameron faces a test of nerve as much as skill as he defends a one-stroke lead going into Thursday's final round of the Red Sea Egyptian Classic at Sokhna Golf Club, Ain Sokhna.
Cameron could not quite recapture the form of his opening, six-under 66 but conditions were that bit more difficult on Day 2 and a one-under-par 71 for seven-under 137 was good enough to hold on to the lead.
Cameron had a up-and-down round with eight birdies - one more than he had in the first round - a double bogey 6 at the 14th and bogeys at the second, eighth, ninth, 11th and 15th in halves o 34-37.
Ross birdied the first, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, 1q2th, 16th and 17th.
Former British amateur champion Reinier Saxton (Netherlands) is on 138, also after a second-round 71.
Scottish amateur champion Chris Ross (Meldrum House), now a rookie pro, is lying in joint seventh place on three-under 141 after a 70 which was one of the best second-round scores.
The Banchory-based player was five under par for his last 12 holes, of which he birdied the seventh, 10th, 11th, 13th and 17th. He had started badly with bogeys at the second, third and sixth in halves of 38 and 32.
Paul Lawrie Golf Centre stablemates David Law, Kris Nicol and Sam Kiloh are joint 10th, joint 13th and joint 29th respectively.
Law, who birdied the first, seventh and 16th but bogeyed the second, third, fourth and ninth,  and Nicol both shot 73s for 143 and 144 respectively. Youngster Kiloh drifted to a 78 for 148 but at least he made the cut with a stroke to spare.
Another Paul Lawrie Golf Centre player, Philip McLean, and Ted Innes-Ker missed the cut. McLean had a 76 for 152 and Innes-Ker a 78 for 154
