STAR ON SOUTH AFRICAN SUNSHINE TOUR
SCOT Mcguigan aiming for cape
town climax
As the South Africa Sunshine Tour season reaches its climax the players are looking to peak and Glasgow-born Doug McGuigan
has timed his run well. His latest four starts have led to top 20 finishes and now the six-time winner has the upcoming Lion of Africa Cape
Town Open in his sights.
In 2013 McGuigan tied for fifth place at Royal Cape Golf Club and in
one week’s time he’ll tee up at the oldest South African course for
another crack at the Mother City’s biggest golf tournament.
A Sunday 73 marked a disappointing end to the tournament for him last year and he finished the week on five-under-par to share fifth place with Trevor Fisher Jnr.
In recent months McGuigan has been going strong and his last performance resulted in a tie for 14th at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Final at Pezula. Prior to that he chalked up a top-six finish at the inaugural Sun Boardwalk Golf Challenge.
McGuigan has made 13 cuts in 16 starts this season, so 2014 has been a frustrating year for him. His game is on the rise and the Cape Town Open forms the prequel to the co-sanctioned events of the summer.
It’s going to take some grit from McGuigan, but he’s playing well enough to produce some really good results in the coming months.
